Riley, 20, will lead for Country in the two day tournament where three games of fours will be played.

“It was the last thing I thought would happen,” Riley admits.

He is the Manning River Times-Iguana Sportstar of the Week, earning a $50 open order at Iguana.

While Riley usually prefers to play third, he has no problems with leading.

“I’m just happy to be selected,” he said.

“So I’ll play where they want me to.”

A State side will be chosen at the conclusion of the tournament.

“Everyone playing is a chance,” he replied when asked if he thought he had any hope of gaining a place in the NSW team.

Riley is happy with his form at the moment.

He spends a lot of time on the green either playing or rolling-up.

“I roll-up two or three times a week,” he said.

Riley had a great start to the year. He qualified for the Australian singles played in Melbourne where he produced a fine performance to make the final 16.

A win with Gary Basham in the district pairs was his best achievement after that.

Riley started bowling when he was 10.

“Dad was rolling-up and asked me if I wanted to join in,” he recalled.

“I’ve loved it ever since.”

Riley won a district junior championship. He’s played No 1 pennants with Taree Leagues in recent years but admits a switch to the powerful Tuncurry club in 2015 ‘could be on the cards.’

He said the possibility of playing with some of the best bowlers in the district is an attraction.

“It’s something I’ll have to consider if I’m going to improve my game,” Riley said.

While he’d prefer to stay playing in the Manning Riley won’t rule out a move sometime in the future.
