Naming idea is just really silly

RENAMING QEII Square is a bit silly, but naming it after any politician is even sillier.

The various generations who have lived in Albury remember it as Dean Square, which I assume was named for the simple reason that it was on Dean Street.

The Mechanics Institute and other buildings were demolished and the space was named Civic Square until some royalist mayor decided it would be nice to commemorate the Queen’s visit in 1988, which created comment at the time.

This seems most appropriate.

Many parks, streets, etc around the city are named for former councillors and significant people who have lived and done things great and small for the city and this is fitting.

I am proud to know that there is a park named for my grandfather after his death and I would be most upset if somebody on a whim decided to change its name.

I doubt if the Queen would remember all the buildings, parks, streets and other landmarks that have been named in her honour, but to rename the park in the middle of the city after a pollie, is inappropriate, in my opinion.
