In the early afternoon on Monday, October 27 storeowners Steve and Diane King were alerted that their shop on King Street, Warrawong had caught on fire due to an electrical fault.

Fire crews were working to contain the flames by the time the Kings arrived, however the heat of the flames meant it was too late to salvage any stock.

Mr King said he was devastatedto see the first site of the family business up in flames.

“We were shocked, totally devastated, we lost everything,” he said.

“We have been here 25 years, it has been almost like a home to us, our kids grewup coming to the shop. It has been a real family thing.”

The store first opened in November 1989 and in 2002 they expanded opening upa store in Shellharbour City Plaza.

The fire tore though the store, melting everything in its path with little left tosalvage, however Ms King said there was some good news.

“We managed to save all of our patient and optometry records which have beentransported to our Shellharbour store.

“Because we have been here so long we have a loyal following and we are luckywe can continue servicing them at our Shellharbour store.

“We hope to get the Warrawong store back up and running as soon as possible, but in the meantime people will see the same friendly faces and get the sameservice at our Shellharbour office.”

The Kings Eyewear store is located at Shop 9 Memorial Drive, Shellharbour City

Plaza just up from the Greater Union Cinema.
