Chelsea Hall aboard the Terry and Karina O’Sullivan trained Respect Me at Stawell on Tuesday. The young apprentice recently scored her first race win at Mortlake.

Hall, who is an apprentice to Terry and Karina O’Sullivan, began her racing career just over a month ago at the Gunbower Cup, where she placed third aboard Paul Jones trained Spanish Vixen.

Since that weekend, she has had several rides for many trainers, none she will remember more than race two at Mortlake.

Hall was on the back of Harold and Jamie Barry trained galloper, Act of Freedom.

Act of Freedom has had 25 career starts and was still a maiden, making it even more special for Hall.

“It was definitely very exciting to win,” Hall said.

“I was unaware that the horse hadn’t won until after the race and that just added to it.

“I knew he would be up on the pace early. I got to the lead without using too much petrol and let the horse go at his own pace to the finish.”

With Hall in the saddle, not only did he hold on, but he sprinted away and finished four and a half lengths clear of Tony Laidlaw-trained Urban Miracle and Wayne Walters-trained Memphis Flyer.

Hall’s mount was not heavily supported by punters, but returned a nice dividend of $11.40.

Hall had four other rides on the day including the Mortlake Cup, where she finished fourth.

At this stage every race is a learning curve for Hall, but she is pleased to get a race win on the board.

“The better your results are, the more opportunity you’re going to have,” Hall said.

“Winning gives you confidence and that helps with your development.”

Hall rode the Terry and Karina O’Sullivan trained galloper Respect Me at the Stawell Racing Club’s Melbourne Cup Day meeting on Tuesday and finished a brave second.
